This document outlines the Call for Papers (Abstract submission is now closed) for presentations to be delivered within a session titled “From idea to flourishing clean-tech companies”, which will be held within the Global Cleaner Production and Sustainable Consumption Conference: Accelerating the Transition to Equitable, Sustainable Post-Fossil-Carbon Societies”, to be held in Sitges, Barcelona, Spain, Nov. 1 – 4, 2015 (www.cleanerproductionconference.com).

Scope and Rationale

Green Development relies on companies that promote environmentally friendly technologies that improve productivity or efficiency while reducing costs, inputs, energy consumption, waste, or pollution.  Despite general pessimism of where the world is heading, multiple company examples are available throughout the world, which are effectively contributing to green development.  The aim of the session is to create a platform to explore and analyze inspiring examples of innovators, who have been able to develop companies that contribute to green development through cleaner production and/or to turn waste into value.

The structure of the session will be interactive where each company representative is expected to give a 5-7 minute presentation, followed by a panel discussion.   We solicit company examples that are at different stages in their business development, but all need to be somehow contributing to cleaner production and thus to green development within the context of helping to accelerate the transition to equitable, sustainable, post-fossil-carbon societies. The company presentation themes are presented below. The themes and questions are only provisional and were designed to guide the authors for the themes that they may wish to co-explore with others in the session.

  1. From idea to a profitable businesses
    • Company experiences
    • Inspiration and transformation into actualization
    • Drivers and barriers and going forward
    • Short and longer term costs and benefits
    • Lessons learned that may benefit others in other countries or regions
  2. Sharing of practical experiences among industry, academia and policy-makers
    • How can academia/educational institutions support green development?
    • What is needed from policy-makers to support green development?
    • What illustrative governmental and/or company policies are providing valuable guidance and support for societal transformation to equitable, sustainable, post-fossil carbon societies?

Format and Procedures for Submission of Responses to this Call for Papers:

Companies are invited to prepare and submit abstracts, in English, of 500 words by May 29th, 2015 via the Global Conference website: www.cleanerproductionconference.com.
